A term life insurance policy is exactly what its name implies: It’s a policy that covers you for a specific term or better said as a period of time, typically the times frame is between 10 and 30 years. It is also referred to as “pure life insurance” because unlike a whole life insurance policy, it does NOT have a cash value component to it – it’s designed solely to give your beneficiaries a payout if you pass away during the term.
If you decide on a term policy to protect your family, you should consider whether your family’s need for life insurance may change before the time that the term expires. For most of us that means the children are grown up and out on their own, the house is probably paid off, and there’s some money set aside that can serve as a safety net for the surviving partner or spouse.
